The Cravigator Study: Looking for Participants

Hi, welcome.

Thank you for your interests.

The Cravigator Study is conducted by the PAC lab at Cornell University.

We are doing this study to understand how we can develop digital interventions to encourage safe drinking habits. Specifically, we are evaluating if we can detect the craving for alcohol/nicotine using wearable devices.

How are we doing this study?

This is a remote study that uses Zoom and our customized iPhone app. The actual study takes one hour.

We will ship a package of experiment devices to the participants. We will also distribute the customized iPhone app to participants using their Apple ID.

After that, we will meet participants on Zoom for 1-hour, during which we will set up the devices and go through the study. During the study, we will ask participants to (1) watch documentaries, (2) pour/sniff alcohol (but no consumption), and (3) answer survey questions while wearing devices that monitor heart rate.

This following flow chart summarizes what a participant would go through in our study:

Who's eligible?

At this stage, we are looking for participants who meets the following criteria:

What are the risk and benefits of participation?

The risks of participation are low and comparable to the risk of interacting with (but not consuming) alcoholic beverages. You may experience increased feelings of anxiety, stress, tense, or craving for alcohol. In addition, you might feel uncomfortable answering some questions on the survey. You are welcome to skip any questions you do not wish to answer or withdraw from the study at any time.

We cannot guarantee direct benefits from participating in this study, but your participation can help us design digital interventions to encourage safe drinking habits.

What will happen after the study?
